One of Canada’s top celebrity designers, Sarah Richardson, has returned to HGTV Canada for an exciting and highly anticipated project called, Sarah Off The Grid! Even though we’ve only seen the premiere episode, the show has quickly become one of our favorites!

Joining Sarah on this eventful journey is her husband, Alexander, and together they’re building their family’s dream home—off the grid—in the countryside. Adding to the couple’s list of to-dos, they’ve also decided to be their own general contractors throughout the build!

So, if you enjoy beautiful design and get satisfaction from building things then you’re going to want to tune in!

But just in case you’ve missed the premiere we’ve recapped some of the standout moments!

Episode One: Divorce Dust

Despite the family living and working in the city, both Sarah and her husband feel at home in the countryside. A few years ago, they bought a hefty lot of land in Creemore, Ontario, and now they’re ready to build their family’s dream home from the ground up!

The family decided on a traditional-styled home for its classic and timeless appeal, and to top it all off they’ve added a stunning belvedere feature on top of the house!

The first episode was jammed-pack with eventful moments. From excavating the site, to breaking ground for the first time, to completing the home’s internal and exterior structure, yet the Off The Grid team managed to finish one of the spaces in the home! And that was the belvedere!

We’re thrilled with how Sarah used our tongue and groove paneling to finish the walls and ceiling, which gives off that cottage-esque ambiance. Now, who wouldn’t want to feel like they’re on a luxe retreat?! Not only that, the vaulted ceiling in tandem with the numerous windows offer an aerated feel to this smaller enclosure.

So imagine being couped up in this space during winter with a nice cup of hot chocolate, your favorite book and throw blanket. Or imagine looking outside at the gorgeous view with the windows open as you let the summer breeze filter through the space. Regardless, this is a room you’d want to spend your time in all-year-round!

We love the choices Sarah and her design partner-in-crime Tommy Smythe made for the belvedere. Using the rich tones of cognac brandy as their color inspiration, they used a mixture of modern and antique elements to create a cozy and inviting area.

We can’t wait to see which space Sarah will complete next!

If you’ve enjoyed the recap of the season’s premiere memorable moments, then be sure to tune back to The Finished Space soon for our next recap! And be sure to tune into Sarah Off The Grid on Sundays at 10pm EDT on HGTV Canada!
