The Fall 2017 One Room Challenge Roundup: The Befores
It’s one of our favorite times of the year! The air is getting colder, leaves are turning color, boots and scarves are being dusted off and worn once again and … and it’s time for Calling it Home’s Fall 2017 edition of the One Room Challenge™!
We are thrilled to be one of the official One Room Challenge Sponsors and support so many of the talented design bloggers participating in this six-week-whirlwind to makeover a whole room!
Check in with us here on The Finished Space every Friday for the next six weeks to see the befores, the afters and all the progress in between!
Now, let’s take a look at the spaces some of the featured design blogger participants are updating:
Husband and wife design team Steve and Alyssa, of the blog Coco & Jack, are One Room Challenge first-timers and looking forward to updating their living room into a formal but functional space featuring their thoughtful design style.
If you’re looking for master bedroom trimspiration, then you’ll want to keep up with designer Ashley Rose from Sugar and Cloth as she features our interior finishings in her master bedroom and ensuite bathroom refresh.
In what could turn out to be one the most dramatic makeovers yet, designer Brittany is transforming her “safety orange” master bedroom and capturing all the details on her blog The Vintage Rug Shop. We don’t want to give away any spoilers, but we’ll just say we’re really excited to see her Metrie Complete space.
Blogger Chloe has gotten a small start on her French Country-inspired dining room. She first took it from it’s original golden carpet glory (yes, gold carpet) to a blank canvas dining space during her kitchen remodel. But now, she’s ready to take the plain walls and bare floors to a completed space in just a few weeks.
Gwen Hefner is The Makerista, and she’s back for another ORC! This time, she’s giving her oldest daughter’s room the update she’s been begging for.
Jennifer over on The Pink Pagoda has a light and crisp blog and design aesthetic that just doesn’t match up with the dark living room, entry way and kitchen space in her home. She is take on a huge project to brighten up this triple combo space during the ORC, which will involve “a complete kitchen renovation, a breakfast area redesign, and a total family room makeover” (Phew. We’re exhausted just typing that.) Good luck Jennifer!
If you love a creative mess, you’re not going to miss what Brittany Watson Jepsen is cooking up on her blog The House that Lars Built. She’s bringing new life to her home office which gets used to so often, but has yet to get a real facelift.
Interior stylist Kirsten Grove loves using the ORC to give back to those she loves. Last time, she redid her niece’s and nephew’s bedroom, and this time she’s updating her in-law’s living room as a “thank you” for being such generous and loving people.
Kelley Nan is a blogger, puppy lover, sourthern girl and ORC pro. She’s completed some incredible room makeovers in the past, and this time she’s set her sights on her over-size master bedroom. She’s looking to make the room feel lighter and create a defined, finished space.
Up next is a peek at rooms being renovated by the design bloggers who are ORC guest participants:
We are doubly excited that Andrea from Harlow and Thistle is joining this round of the ORC! Earlier this summer, we partnered with Nostalgic Warehouse for a #MyDoorDoOver giveaway—and Andrea was our winner! She’ll be featuring her winning door of choice from our Fashion Forward Collection, in her home office makeover.
Ashley Minnings is the blogger and nearly certified interior designer over on the blog Home Girl. She’s back for another round of ORC in hopes of giving another room a brilliant makeover. Her and her dad will be tackling their living room this time, and they’re “aiming for a modern-farmhouse-cottage style, lots of natural textures, a neutral colour palette with splashes of blues.”
Bethany and her “handy husband,” Art, are joining in on the ORC fun to makeover their youngest son’s bedroom. His has the final room to get an upgrade in their fixer-upper home, and they’re going to do it all in time for the big reveal! You can see their other updates on their blog, The Little Estate, and we’ll be keeping you in the loop on this room too!
We have our first confirmed demolition project! Blogger Kim Power is finally getting the chance to remove the black tile from her bathroom that is “the bane of her existence.” In just a few weeks, she’ll be remaking and retiling her space to feel lighter, brighter and more inviting.
Ruthie is sharing her love for furniture renovation and her home reno story on her blog Refashionably Late. And for the next six weeks, she’ll be sharing the story of her living room makeover. Her space is currently cute, but a little too mismatched, even for her.
Tash and Kes are looking to makeover the heart of the home—their kitchen. Since the space has such great bones, it will be one of their smallest ORC transformations, but what they have planned will make a big impact. You have to take a look at their moodboard to see what we mean!
Vanessa Francis is no stranger to the ORC, and no stranger to Metrie! She takes advantage of the time crunch to help her make decisions on the fly—instead of painfully agonizing over them. This round, she’s turning her unfinished basement into a living room/TV area.
As she prepares for the arrival of her baby boy due in the next couple of weeks, Robyn, of Shibang Designs, is creating a shared room for both her toddler and his new brother. We can’t wait to see what plans she has in store!
You definitely won’t want to miss these weekly roundups. There’s lots of beautiful moodboards, creative decisions, and gorgeous finished spaces coming your way! We’ll see you back here next week with week two’s update!
