Spring has sprung and we just can’t get enough of the colors we are starting to see outside, with flowers beginning to bloom and trees starting to sprout their leaves again! So, to celebrate this festival of color in nature, we’re taking a look at one of the most eye-catching Builder & Designer Challenge entries to date: the gorgeous Vancouver boutique, Curated Home by Chrissy and Co.
Without even scheduling a design consultation, we’re inspired. Chrissy Cottrell, of Chrissy and Co., expertly created a sophisticated space in a commercial storefront by employing a striking mix of color, along with traditional and modern finishings.
Full of Hollywood Regency spirit, this design is all about alluring guests and clients. Large swatches of wall alternate between black and white.
Chrissy created the perfect canvas using interior finishings from our Fashion Forward Collection and panel mould, regional to her area. The panel mould creates a gorgeous wall treatment around the fabulous lighting and painting, and of course, we can’t forget her use of crown moulding, added for heightened architectural appeal. The polished walls become the right match for the colorful, metallic decor. We love how neither the walls or the decor steal the show. Instead, they work together to create a dramatic space anchored in the principles of classic design.
This boutique was meant to gleam with inspiration, and we wanted to show you how this storefront’s design can translate into home design. Take a look at this month’s moodboard before we dive into the how-to:
An important thing to note here is layering vibrant and dramatic pieces can be done in a cohesive, clean way. Luckily for you, Chrissy makes her design principles pretty clear.
First, layer neutrals for a graphic punch. The black and white wall is a perfect example of this idea. Next, choose your accent color and commit. Can you spot the designer’s choice? Gold and yellow are here to stay in this space, from the hardware to lighting and even furniture. We are especially fond of the stacked ornate mirrors, perfectly framed by the panel mould, along the wall. You might have missed these items in the first image, but here’s another glimpse:
With these simple design guidelines, you are free to layer even more colors and textures in your space.
Chrissy takes it a step further with pale floors and a waterfall white marble table. The Fashion Forward interior door, painted black, adds emphasis to the bold elements throughout. Curated Home is full of acrylic, crystal, velvet, glass, and natural elements like flowers.
There is so much to unpack in this little boutique, from the baseboard to the recessed lighting, but we covered it all in this month’s Pinterest board. Inspiration awaits, and you don’t want to miss out.
