Ignite Your Child’s Imagination with These Modern Playrooms
September 5, 2019
by The Finished Space

With summer coming to an end, kids are gearing up to go back to school with their friends! But having fun is just as important as education, so we’ve gathered some spaces dedicated to informal learning through play.

“Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning” — Mr. Rogers, from the Fred Rogers Center

Take a look at these charming children’s spaces:

WHERE: Fairview Cottage Playroom

We love Ashley’s minty fresh space with its soft palette and thoughtful decor! Your kids can really relax in this room after a long day at school, thanks to the abundant natural light and soft surfaces that make the space feel calm and refreshing. The crisp lines of the shiplap and New Traditional trim beautifully highlight the natural angles of the space, finishing the room off from top to bottom.

Updating your trim is an easy way to rejuvenate any space, and you can do it yourself with our helpful tutorials! Check out our videos for installing crown moulding and shiplap and let us know in the comments what other types of tutorials you’d love to see!

WHO: Steve & Alyssa Terpstra | Coco & Jack
WHAT: Metrie Complete Pre-Painted shiplap | Very Square interior door*
WHERE: One Room Challenge Cozy Basement Playroom

Steve & Alyssa renovated their basement into the perfect playroom for their children as part of last year’s One Room Challenge! The soft, doe-print carpet pairs wonderfully with the vertical shiplap walls to create a cozy cabin feel. And with the two house-shaped chalkboards for the kids to draw on, the Terpstra’s can rest easy knowing that their Polar White walls won’t become colorful canvases!

Steve & Alyssa were invited participants from 2018’s Spring One Room Challenge. Check out the rest of last year’s reveals here!

WHAT: Fashion Forward interior door*
WHERE: Jungle-themed Playroom

Kids can be wild. So why not give them their own jungle-inspired space to let their imaginations run wild! And you can easily check in on them without disturbing their play with clear glass doors, such as from our popular Fashion Forward Collection seen here. The matte black of the door and wall grounds the bright colors and wild touches to keep the space from becoming overwhelming. Toucan bet your kids would love to monkey around this space!

WHERE: Treehouse Loft

When it’s time for bed, your child can dream about future adventures from their own private treehouse. This boy’s bedroom gets its country charm from rural decor and a rustic wooden loft bed. The blue and orange palette spark thoughts of a hazy sun setting in rural America. With this playful bed, bedtime can be just as fun as the rest of their day.

WHERE: Under-the-Staircase Secret Playroom

Nothing makes kids feel more excitement and magic than having their own secret space! Annie Fitzgerald and Maria von Hartz amazingly turned an empty crawlspace into a haven for imaginative play. Thanks to the crisp lines of the shiplap the hidden door camouflages back in with the rest of the stylish paneling when closed. Now that’s how you create value out of every inch of your space!
